Welcome back to Term 4!
Pupil free day – Monday 12 October
We look forward to welcoming all students and families back to school on Tuesday 13 October. The pupil free day on Monday is Partnership-wide, with all staff in our local area to spend the day engaged in professional learning based around the suite of curriculum support materials recently released by our Department.
Sun safety and hats
A friendly reminder that all students and staff are required to wear a hat that gives good cover to the face, neck and ears in Term 4. Broad-brimmed (no cord attached), legionnaire or bucket-style hats are recommended. Baseball or peak caps are not acceptable. School hats can be purchased by contacting Robyn in our front office.
60th birthday celebrations
Our planning committee have now finalised arrangements for our official birthday event, 4.30-8.00pm Thursday 22 October at the school. A student art show and a range of food offerings will be available from 4.30pm, with the official welcome and speeches to take place from 5.30-6.00pm. We would love all families to come along and enjoy this major milestone in our school’s history. Plenty of space will be available on our Eastern Oval for groups to set up chairs and picnic rugs, whilst observing covid social distancing guidelines. A reminder also that the following day, Friday 23 October, will be a school closure day.
Nature play development (Western Oval)
Stage 1 of our Western Oval upgrade is now complete and has been signed-off with our facilities managers. The temporary fencing has been removed and we will be encouraging students and classes to make use of the space from the beginning of term. Please note that the water hand pump will be isolated until we officially open the area at our 60th birthday event. We kindly ask that all students and community members take responsibility for the space so the natural elements can establish themselves and the area can be enjoyed for many years to come. We are hopeful that an educator from Climbing Tree will visit us in Week 4 to provide all classes with guidance on how to safely engage in creative nature play and utilise natural materials in this fabulous new space.
Traffic safety
As we prepare to return to school, we would like to remind everyone of the importance of responsible driver and pedeastrian behaviour around our school at drop-off and pick-up times. There were a number of reports from parents and community members last term regarding unsafe and potentially dangerous behaviour from students and/or road users. We will continue to work with our local control bodies, including SAPOL and Marion Council, to educate our students, staff and community, and enforce relevant regulations and laws. Please be vigilant, exercise extreme caution and patience, and help us keep everyone safe when travelling to and from school.
